Smile…Even If You Don’t Mean It

How do you stay positive in a negative world? I am currently surrounded by negativity and I don’t like it. I am learning with each curve ball that is thrown at me, I am finding a new way to shift and miss the blow.

One way I cope is fake smiling. It is the most difficult thing I have learned to do and I do it a lot. And it is excruciating. It is a coping mechanism which provides me the upper hand. It allows the negativity to slide right off without sucking me into its vortex of rotten behaviors.

I cannot control what this world throws at me but I can certainly control how I respond to it. Smile. Smile, smile, smile! Some days I am so nice and I smile so much that sometimes I vomit in my mouth a little bit. It’s sickening. By the end of the day my cheeks hurt.

Fake smiling is similar to acting. It is cast in front of a live audience and the show must go on and the character must be played, despite the outcome. Smiling tricks our brain and diffuses negativity.

So if your having a bad day, remember to smile. Even if you vomit in your mouth a little bit.
