I have come to realize at 1:30 in the morning, whatever this funk I have going on in my throat and nasal cavities, has completely taken over. DEVIL! This is why I don’t take time and relax. The adrenaline keeps me healthy and functioning. It’s when I let my guard down and take a deep breath is when I usually fall ill. Happens all the time.
My mother says, “you do too much, that’s why you’re sick.” Actually, no mother, it’s just the opposite, I let my guard down and thought I would take some time for myself. Now look where it has gotten me. Just like clock work. It’s like my body realizes it is not in focused, power mode and asks, what the heck is going on? Why are we idle? Then BAM! Funky town.
So here I sit, on the couch. I tried to go back to sleep but my throat… It’s painful. Oh my goodness my throat hurts so bad. I fixed some hot tea and poured a half gallon of honey into my oversized mug. Okay, maybe not quite a half gallon.
This oversized mug was given to me by my former boss when I left my customer service job and was on the slow climb into management. Three years later I had finally made it to the top. The side of the mug reads, “never stop dreaming.” There is no dreaming tonight with this stupid funk I’ve got going on. I’m sure I picked it up from the grocery store. That’s the only place I’ve been. Dirty people. I am a sanitizing freak when it comes to other people’s germs. I must have missed one. I let my guard down. Stupid me.
It’s officially Christmas Eve. I’m sure both Santa and baby Jesus are talking about me. Placing bets on whether I will remove myself from this couch to wrap gifts, or go to Christmas Eve services, or if I will just lay like broccoli for the day. No one wants my germs. I won’t be like the others and share the love of funky town.
Either way, I’ve kicked it up a notch, from tea to coffee. I will pursue! I will shove tissue up my nose and move on with my day like I had planned. The dogs have realized I’m not in the bedroom and have come to join my couch escapade. And the journey through funky town continues, this time with furry company.
